"A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder." -Thomas Carlyle

When we don't live with any goals in mind. It's hard to have any motivation or anything. Usually we steer ourselves towards something even if it's general. When you have a goal you want to keep at it and persist it. It's something you want to spend your time on. WHen you spend your time being idle you are more likely to choose the wrong too. It's a path of 0 productivity that can really do a lot to you. You feel like you want something to happen in your life. If your goal is to ctw then it isn't a goal.

Student Success Statement 5.9.18

"If I've got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I'm going to succeed." --Dan Dierdorf

In general you'll have two choices. One being the right way to go and one being the wrong way to go. If you genuinely want to choose the right and you try. Things will go okay for you. As Dan says everything will fall into line. So it's all a matter of making an attempt. Maybe a goal can be to never cheat. Many other people cheat very often but you made it a goal to avoid being caught up with that. So if you pursue the goal of not cheating correctly everything will come much more easily. That is what Dan Dierdorf is referencing when he mentions that he needs to do the right thing correctly and by correctly it means to simply stick to it.

Student Success Statement 3.2.18

"Many think that the short term gain will be worth the long term pain, but it isn't. In addition, using steroids is cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don't do it." -George Mitchell, Senate Majority Leader, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Disney Chairman of the Board.

Cheating can only guarantee a small amount of success but at a bad cost. Cheating in sports is terrible for the sole reason of everyone else who worked harder than you loses. You shortcut your way to your goal but you didn't actually get there yourself. So in reality it wasn't you winning anyways. When athletes use steroids there usually is a clouded amount of pressure on them to succeed. When you look at sports as you HAVE to succeed no matter what it kind of takes the point of sports away. I get that it's a career but in any job if you cheat you get fired and you're looked as less than. So many people want to be in a major league for every sport. They work extremely hard to make themselves be the best they can be and you worked your way up to that level up until you cheated. So not only do you undermine your teammates hard work and effort but you ruin your own effort.

Student Success Statement 2.1.18

"In life as in football, you won't go far, unless you know where the goalposts are." - Arnold H. Glasgow
You should be able to have some form of obtainable goals. Even if it's something small you can definitely achieve it if you plan accordingly and put in effort. It should be something possible too like learning an instrument or getting a good grade. If you put time and energy into it you could definitely do many things. An example of one of my goals was to get an A in math class last year. I ended up doing exactly that and I hope to do that this year. I'm trying to ask more questions right when I'm confused so that I don't overthink it and end up never knowing and I end up getting lost in the lesson. I think when you know what you want to achieve it can make the path more clearer for you and and you know what you should be doing to do it. Unlike when you aren't sure or you're not thinking about your life goals. Either way anyone can achieve what they want.
